Video Friday: When They Say You Are Overqualified

It’s not uncommon for a job seeker to be told he or she is overqualified for a position. If this happens to you, it is possible to respond in a way that keeps you in the running for the job.  In today’s video blog, Jobfully’s Carrie Krueger explains what to do when you’re told you are overqualified.

(If you’re having trouble viewing the video in this window, you can watch it on YouTube instead.)

In another video blog, we look at how to turn your qualifications into advantages and position yourself as a perfect match for the job.   You can read more about the issue of being labeled overqualified in the Jobfully resource library. Great! I used to think that being tagged as overqualified is just a subtle way to say that “we can’t hire you”. It’s good to hear from you some questions we can ask the hiring manager should they say so.

Glad that’s helpful Natalie. If you’re told you are overqualified, do not give up. Try to find the real concern and respond to it. Show how your qualifications are an advantage.
